Paint-along Illumination Lesson: I've got Parchment - now what?

Paint-along Illumination Lesson: I've got Parchment - now what?

This class is a bit different. It is based on Elena Wyth's research labeled: "I've got a piece of Parchment - now what?"
NOTE: no parchment-in-hand required to play along. Substitutions listed below.
Come and learn how to prepare a piece of parchment for illumination or calligraphy.
You will need:
- a piece of parchment (stretched & dried animal skin) or a substitution of a heavy brown paper bag or some watercolor paper.
- a piece of sandpaper (220 or fiber grit preferred)
- chalk (calcium carbonate) or a clean eggshell
- a 3'x3' porous cloth (bandana or handkerchief is fine) and a rubber band/tie.
- paints and/or calligraphy pen to use to test.
Optional:
- a cuttlefish (from a petstore)
- gum sandarac
I will refer to Elena's website, rather than make a separate handout for this: https://elenawyth.wordpress.com
